Former cricketer Rahul Dravid is set to continue his role as head coach of the Indian team, at least until next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seemingly satisfied with Dravid’s services, decided to extend his contract despite team’s disastrous defeat in the final of the 2023 World Cup against Australia.

However, Dravid himself is unsure of his tenure extension as he recently claimed that he has not signed any papers yet. The cricketer-turned-coach stated that he himself is waiting for an official confirmation from the board as he continues his break away from the game.

Rahul Dravid still waiting for official papers

Recently swarmed by media personnel, Rahul Dravid was asked to divulge details about his discussions with the BCCI regarding his contract extension as head coach of the Indian team. In spite of BCCI’s official announcement, the former cricketer responded that he cannot confirm his extension yet considering he has not received any official papers from the board.

Rahul Dravid was appointed as India’s head coach following Ravi Shastri’s exit in late 2021. Under his tenure, coupled with Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, the team lifted the 2023 Asia Cup title and reached the final of the subsequent 2023 World Cup at home.

The ‘Men in Blue’ also reached the final of the 2021-23 WTC, and registered an emphatic ODI series win in England back in mid-2022.

Content with Dravid’s results and team’s atmosphere, BCCI officials recently decided to extend his contract until the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and United States.

The former cricketer, however, distanced himself from India’s ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia at home citing fatigue. His ex-teammate VVS Laxman was appointed as interim coach in his place instead.
