'Excited to Join SRH,' Shahbaz Ahmed After Exit From RCB Before IPL 2024

Spin-bowling all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team management for welcoming him into the 'Orange Army'. Shahbaz has embarked on a new journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL), parting ways with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the mini-auction for the 2024 season. 

The West Bengal-based cricketer has been traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from the Bangalore-based franchise, with Mayank Dagar joining RCB as part of the deal. The trade window closed on Sunday, marking the conclusion of the deal between RCB and SRH involving Shahbaz and Dagar.

Shahbaz, who was acquired for INR 2.4 crore in the 2022 mega-auction by RCB and enjoyed a productive season, had a less-than-impressive IPL 2023 campaign. In 10 games, he scored only 42 runs and managed to pick up just one wicket with an economy rate of 13.57. Based on this performance, the decision to trade him might be seen as a strategic move by the RCB management.

"I would like to thank SRH management for welcoming me in the Orange Army. I will do my best in the upcoming season, and I'm really excited to join the team," said Shahbaz Ahmed in a video released by Sunrisers Hyderabad.


Shahbaz has showcased his versatility in the past, proving to be a flexible player with both bat and ball. Although his recent IPL campaign for RCB didn't match his exploits in 2022, his ability to impact matches is undeniable. He has demonstrated this capability while playing for his state team, West Bengal, and is poised to contribute similarly for his new IPL team.

As a left-arm spinner, Shahbaz can stick to tight areas with the ball, varying his pace to help the team gain control in the middle overs or even in the powerplay if necessary.

Meanwhile, his versatility with the bat allows him to be used as a floater when needed. In addition, his presence in the lower-middle order enhances the team's batting depth. Shahbaz Ahmed's acquisition adds a dynamic dimension to the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the upcoming IPL season.
