'Haven't Capitalized In Powerplay...': LSG Head Coach Takes 'Brutal Dig' At KL Rahul

In the aftermath of Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) 19-run defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 64 of IPL 2024 on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, coach Justin Langer didn't mince words about the root of his team's struggles.

Chasing a huge target of 209, LSG failed to capitalize during the crucial powerplay overs, a recurring theme that has hampered their campaign this season. The visitors were reduced to 59/4 in the powerplay.

Langer takes a jibe at LSG openers for their batting in the powerplay

Speaking after the DC vs LSG clash, Langer took a jab at LSG openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock and noted that the top-order’s inability to perform in the powerplay overs has been their main setback this season.

"The Lucknow wicket has been a real contest between bat and ball whereas a lot in this tournament has been very one-sided towards the bat," Langer stated, highlighting the balanced nature of their home ground which contrasts with the predominantly batsman-friendly pitches this season.

The Aussie veteran further reckoned that their openers had not maximized the opportunities during the powerplay like some other teams, pinpointing the primary issue for LSG.

"We haven't capitalized in the powerplay like some of the other teams have," he added, pinpointing where the shoe pinches for LSG.

Justin Langer also took the time to sing praises for Arshad Khan, whose unbeaten 58 off 33 balls was a standout in an otherwise underwhelming chase.

"I think Arshad is a very good cricketer. You saw that he swung the ball early, he's a good fieldsman, and to be able to bat like that, he's a very good package. He's got huge potential and showed some of that tonight. So when he becomes more consistent, particularly with his bowling, he could be a real handful," concluded Langer.

Coming to LSG’s innings, the chase began poorly, with Ishant Sharma dismantling their top order, including the crucial wickets of KL Rahul (5), Quinton de Kock (12) and Deepak Hooda (0).

Despite a valiant effort by Nicholas Pooran (61 off 27) and a resilient unbeaten 58 off 33 by Arshad Khan, LSG fell short, ending their innings at 189/9.
