Team India To Play 'Only' One Warm-Up Game Before T20 World Cup 2024 Commences

In a notable change from previous preparations, Team India will play just one warm-up match ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Traditionally, India has played at least two warm-up games before ICC events, but this time, the team has opted for a solitary match due to logistical reasons and player fatigue.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that the warm-up game will be held in New York, where the team will be based. A warm-up match in Florida was first suggested by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

However, Indian players, exhausted from extensive travel during the Indian Premier League (IPL), are unwilling to fly from New York to Florida and back for just one match.

India's warm-up games hold significant commercial value and are always televised, given the high monetization opportunities.

In 2015, for instance, a warm-up game between India and Australia in Adelaide was broadcast in India but not in Australia.

The ICC is expected to release the official schedule soon, with most teams, except for England and Pakistan, playing two warm-up games.

India's league matches In T20 World Cup 2024

June 9 vs Pakistan at Eisenhower Park, New York

June 12 vs the United States at Eisenhower Park, New York

Rohit Sharma's team will leave for the USA in two batches: those not in the IPL playoffs on May 25, and the rest after the IPL final on May 26.

This marks the first time in years that India will only have one warm-up game for a major ICC event, highlighting the team's focus on minimizing travel and fatigue ahead of their World Cup campaign.
