Since Team India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup has been announced, the cricket world can’t stop talking. From Shubman Gill, Jitesh Sharma’s snub, Ishan Kishan’s comeback and even Yashasvi Jaiswal’s absence, the selections have sparked endless debate.
Despite consistent performance in the domestic circuit, Jaiswal missed his spot again in Team India’s T20I side, and Jitesh Sharma’s commission stunned the fans. Throwing his weight behind the duo, former India batter Wasim Jaffer said he would have picked them ahead of Ishan Kishan and Washington Sundar.
Wasim Jaffer throws his support behind Jaiswal and Jitesh
Since the last T20 World Cup triumph of Team India in the in 2024, the scenario has changed. As the defending champions are heading towards the marquee event again, the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup grabbed the attention. Shubman Gill’s sub stunned fans, but some more changes grabbed attention.
As Yashasvi Jaiswal has been missing from Team India’s T20I squad for more than a year now, the young opener has been overlooked again for the upcoming marquee tournament. Adding to the surprise, regular T20I member Jitesh Sharma was also left out. The twin omissions sparked buzz.
Backing the star batter, former India batter Wasim Jaffer questioned the team management’s move. Addressing their snub, he said he would have picked both players ahead of Ishan Kishan and Washington Sundar.
“Why not Jaiswal and Jitesh? I would have them in place of Ishan & Washi. Axar is VC so he’s sure to play and you can’t play Washi ahead of Varun and Kuldeep. Jitesh hasn’t done anything wrong to be dropped and Yashasvi, don’t need any explaining why he shouldn’t be there in first place,” Jaffer wrote on social media.
Kishan in, Gill out as selectors make bold moves
The Indian fans are on their way to enjoy some thrilling T20 moments on the field as the T20 World Cup 2026 is set to take place in India and Sri Lanka. With the big stage set on home soil, the team management has made some bold calls, mixing surprise inclusions with headline-grabbing snubs in the squad.
In recent times, Shubman Gill was seen struggling with his T20I form, and the recently concluded T20I series against the Proteas is the biggest example of that. After he scored only 32 runs in three matches, the management snubbed him from the squad.
On the other hand, hard work paid off for Ishan Kishan perfectly. After having a stellar Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season, he marked his much-awaited entry to the Indian side after two years. With Gill out, Axar Patel steps in as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy as the Men in Blue eye a title reclaim on home soil.
