Pakistan cricket team’s woes are a never-ending tale. After the ICC Mens ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 fallout, captain Babar Azam stepped down from the leadership role across all three formats of the game. He took responsibility for the underwhelming campaign and subsequently relinquished his leadership duties.

A few hours after Babar Azam submitted his resignation at the PCB headquarters, the board announced the appointment of two new captains. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was named the T20 format captain, whereas batter Shan Masood has been handed the responsibility of leading the test side.

After the conclusion of the World Cup, Pakistan is set to travel to Australia for a three-game test series. However, ahead of his maiden tour as a captain of the red ball side, Masood suffered a major injury scare during a List-A game in Rawalpindi on Friday.

During a domestic game between Karachi and Multan, Shan Masood collided with former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed while attempting a catch. Both players ran from opposite ends to club a catch at mid-off.

Due to a lack of communication and formal calling, Masood and Sarfaraz ran into one another as the former was on the ground, whimpering in pain. After a brief delay, Shan Masood limped off the field with a visible struggle in the right ankle.

Amid injury concerns, team Karachi issued a statement and cleared the air. The team said Masood's initial scans revealed no serious damage to his ankle, which rules out the worst-case scenario. However, the team has yet to determine the severity of the injury before taking a call.

Pakistan's tour of Australia is three weeks away. Captain Shan Masood's unavailability could be a massive blow to the team's winning chances. Also, since PCB has yet to name a vice-captain, the Pakistan team might travel without a skipper if Shan Masood gets ruled out.
