India batting all-rounder Harleen Deol gave a strong reply to her critics with her performance on the field. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026), she played a brilliant match-winning innings for UP Warriorz against the Mumbai Indians.

Harleen Deol guides UP Warriorz to first win

Notably, Harleen remained unbeaten on 64 runs from just 39 balls as UP Warriorz chased down the target comfortably. The victory came at an important time for the team, which had struggled in its earlier matches.

More importantly, Harleen’s strong comeback came after she was retired out in the previous match against the Delhi Capitals. In that game, she was batting on 47 runs off 36 balls, with three overs still left in the innings. The team management, led by coach Abhishek Nayar, decided to bring in power-hitter Chloe Tryon instead.

The decision surprised many fans and experts and led to criticism of both the team and Harleen. However, instead of letting the moment affect her confidence, Harleen stayed focused and prepared herself for the next challenge.

Against Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI, Harleen showed maturity and clarity in her approach. She did not try to hit every ball hard. Instead, she focused on timing and smart shot selection. Her innings was calm yet effective, and it helped UP Warriorz chase the target with seven wickets in hand.

Harleen Deol’s take on being retired out

During the post-match presentation, Harleen spoke openly about being retired out in the earlier match. She showed understanding and respect for the team’s decision-making process.

“Yesterday also I was batting well, but as you saw today, how Chloe can change the scenario. For me, I just took it in that way. Chloe is someone who can hit big, so probably that didn't go our way. That is the only thing which happened,” said Harleen during the post-match presentation.

“It's just normal preparation for me. Nothing different. I was batting well yesterday, also. There's no point in just keeping stressing on that thing. Honestly, yesterday it gave me a lot of confidence, in fact, because the first two games didn't go my way.

But then I went on and figured out a few things, I was just trying to overhit, this wicket is not something which you know for me as a batter to just keep overhitting and just more on timing-based things,” she added.

For her efforts, Harleen was named Player of the Match. Her performance proved that she had learned from the previous game and was ready to improve.

Harmanpreet Kaur shares thoughts on Harleen Deol’s performance

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur also shared her thoughts on the situation. She admitted that she was surprised by Harleen being retired out earlier but praised her mindset and comeback.

“Surprised to see she was retired in the last game, but I think she came up with a very positive mindset, and I hope she'll continue that,” said Harmanpreet.

Notably, despite the win over Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz remain at the bottom of the WPL points table after four matches. Meanwhile, the MI continue to hold second place.
