Ex-cricketer urges India to boycott Pakistan game [Source: @Sports_Himanshu/x.com]
A few weeks ago, the India Legends team decided to boycott their two matches against Pakistan Legends in the World Championship of Legends (WCL). The likes of Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and others pulled out of the game at the last moment, and it turned out to be a big morale debate on social media.
Harbhajan Singh's fiery words on IND-PAK clash
However, when the Asia Cup 2025 schedule was announced, the fixtures included India, and Pakistan in the same group. This infuriated former cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, who slammed BCCI for their stance on the marquee event.
In an interview with TOI, he stated that while our soldiers are dying trying to protect the nation, a cricket match between the two doesn't make any sense.
"They need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home - their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter," Harbhajan said in an exclusive interview with TOI.
"Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first," he added.
India set to play vs Pakistan despite strained relation
As of now, India is slated to participate in the Asia Cup 2025, but things escalated after Pakistan sponsored the infamous Pahalgam attack in April 2025, and India retaliated with air strikes - a mission they called, Operation Sindoor.
Earlier there were reports that India might pull out of the competition due to their strained relationship with Pakistan, but despite it, the team has reportedly decided to take part in the Asia Cup, which has infuriated former cricketers.
