In the latest development, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to part ways with their mentor, Zaheer Khan, ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The former Indian speedster joined LSG before the 2025 season, but after a poor season, where the team failed to qualify for the playoffs, the two parties are set to move in opposite directions.

LSG to move in new direction after poor IPL 2025 Season

Zaheer joined the LSG coaching staff after Gautam Gambhir left the franchise to join the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. The former pacer was also fulfilling the bowling coach's duties, which was left by Morne Morkel, who joined Gambhir in the Indian coaching setup.

"LSG is set to part ways with Zaheer Khan, and a new mentor will be given a bigger role to monitor RPSG Group's other franchises," a source told TOI.

It is also learnt that Sanjiv Goenka, the LSG owner will appoint a new Director of Cricket, who will oversee the developments of other RPSG Group teams - Durban's Super Giants, and Manchester Originals.

LSG's poor performance in IPL 2025

Expectations were high when LSG formed a new-look team ahead of the IPL 2025 season, as they also acquired the costliest player in the history of the league - Rishabh Pant. However, things fell apart as LSG bowling didn't live up to the bar set by the team owner.

Most of the LSG pacers were injured, and the team failed to develop a quality bowler, another reason why LSG were tempted to part ways with Zaheer. The team finished at the seventh spot, with just 6 wins out of 14.

LSG appoint new Bowling coach

Recently, LSG roped in former India and KKR bowling coach, Bharat Arun in their coaching setup. Arun will be given extra responsibility of scouting young bowlers and working with them. Arun performed exceedingly well for the Knight Riders, and LSG would be expecting similar results from him.
