Yuvraj Singh, one of India's most iconic all-rounders, recently revealed a light-hearted and funny anecdote from his cricketing days during an appearance on the Club Prairie Fire podcast. He shared a personal story from the 2007-08 Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, a series notorious for the ‘Monkeygate’ scandal. Yuvraj's story provided a fresh, humorous perspective on an otherwise intense tour.

Yuvraj Singh was dating an actress at the time, who was also in Australia for her own professional commitments. In the podcast, Yuvraj shared how the demands of the tour led to some awkward yet funny situations for him.

However, despite his request, she followed him to Canberra. Yuvraj explained how her unexpected presence during the tour led to a stressful period, especially since his performance in the first two Tests wasn't up to par. He described how the situation culminated in a hilarious incident involving her shoes.

“I was dating an actress, I won't name her; (She is) very good at the moment and very experienced. She was shooting in Adelaide. I told her, listen, let's not meet for a bit because I'm on Australia tour, and need to focus. She followed me to Canberra in the bus. In two Tests, I didn't get many runs. And I was like, 'what are you doing here?' And she was like, ‘I want to spend time with you’,” Yuvraj began.

“So, I met her in the night and we began chatting. I told her you need to focus on your career and I need to focus on mine, because I'm on Australia tour and you know what that means. Anyway, we were leaving for Adelaide from Canberra and she packed my suitcase.”

One morning, as Yuvraj was getting ready to board the team bus, he found that his shoes were missing. His girlfriend had packed them away and suggested he wear her pink slip-ons.

“In the morning, I was like ‘where are my shoes’? She said, ‘I packed them’. I asked, ‘How would I go on the bus’? And she said, 'Wear mine'. She had these pink slip-ons. And I was like, 'Oh my god'. I had to wear those pink slip-ons, and I was carrying my bag in front of my shoes to hide them. The guys saw it, and they clapped for me. I had to wear pink slip-ons to the airport until I bought flip-flops there,” said Yuvraj, as laughter echoed.

How Did India Perform On 2007-08 Tour Of Australia?

Australia emerged victorious in the four-match Test series 2-1 during this memorable tour. The first test saw Australia's dominance with a 337-run win, followed by a 122-run victory in the second Test. However, India, under the inspiring captaincy of Anil Kumble, turned the tables with a 72-run win in Perth. The fourth test ended in a draw, but it was enough for Australia, under the leadership of Ricky Ponting, to clinch the series at home. However, the series was marred by umpiring controversies and the ‘Monkeygate’ scandal during the Sydney Test.
