In a significant development, there are reports that the BCCI is likely to take swift action after a humiliating series defeat against New Zealand and is planning senior members' exit from the Test side after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
It is no hidden fact that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are towards the wrong end of their 30s and are going through a massive slump. Notably, Virat has amassed just 93 runs in this series, while Rohit amassed just 91 runs.
Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma's Test Future In Danger
Meanwhile, a report from Times of India has mentioned that the Roger Binny-led board is likely to drop Virat, Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja, and R Ashwin from the Test side in a phased manner.
"Stocks will be taken certainly, and it could be of informal nature since the team leaves for Australia on November 10. But this has been a huge debacle but, with the Australia series around the corner and the squad already announced, there won't be any tinkering," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
"But if India doesn't qualify for the WTC final in England, one can be rest assured that all four super seniors won't be on that flight to the UK for the ensuing five-Test series. In any case, all four have likely played their final Test at home together," the source added.
Earlier, it was assumed that the senior players would leave the team after the WTC 2025 final like they did after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. But now, the BCCI wants to act quickly and the senior players might not travel to England as well.
