Devdutt Padikkal realized one of his biggest dreams after making his Test debut in the fifth Test against England at Dharamsala on Friday.

In his debut innings, he made heads turn with a terrific knock of 65 runs in 103 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six.

Rajat Patidar’s injury led to Padikkal making his way into the playing XI. With that, he also became the fifth Indian cricketer to make his debut in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

Following his heroics in Dharamsala, the Rajasthan Royals revealed that he couldn’t sleep at night after being informed about his potential debut. Speaking to the pressure, here’s what he said:

“I got the message one night before that I could play, so it was a tough night to sleep. There was nervousness but these are the days you live for. When you get that cap for the first time, it's something that you dreamed of as a kid, and living that dream is something really special."

Padikkal came to bat following the departure of Rohit Sharma in the 62nd over of the innings. In the very next over, Gill also got out as India lost both the set batters in quick succession.

At that stage, England were hoping to stage a comeback but Sarfaraz Khan and Padikkal had other ideas. The duo mixed caution with aggression and put on a 97-run stand to strengthen India’s dominance in the Test.

Playing his debut innings, Devdutt Padikkal blazed his way to a 65-run knock off just 103 deliveries, including 10 fours and 1 six. Shoaib Bashir got him out, eventually, with a peach in the 93rd over. At stumps on day 2, India have managed to score a gigantic total of 473 runs for the loss of eight wickets. The lead reads 255 runs.
