Indian captain Rohit Sharma has already punched out over 300 runs in his side’s first five matches of the ongoing 2023 World Cup. After slumping to a six-ball duck against Australia in India’s tournament opener in Chennai, the dashing opener has been heaping runs and ensuring his side get an ideal launchpad for their run-chases.

Sharma demolished Afghanistan and Pakistan before his sparkling 40s against Bangladesh and New Zealand eased up Virat Kohli’s job in the middle overs.

Such has been his contribution with the bat upfront, that former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson held back no words in praising the legendary opening batsman.

Shane Watson heaps huge praise on Rohit Sharma

Shane Watson, one of the expert commentators for the official broadcasters of the 2023 World Cup, lavished huge praise on Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his splendid run with the bat off late.

A two-time World Cup winner himself, Watson claimed that the Indian opener has been effortlessly dominating all bowlers in the tournament. The star all-rounder added that Sharma’s batting has been a treat to watch so far and he is simply toying with the bowlers at this stage. While speaking on the Star Sports Network, Shane Watson said:

“Rohit Sharma at the absolute peak of his powers currently. It's a treat to watch his batting. He is dominating all bowlers in this World Cup. Goodness me, he will hit the ball wherever he wants and toying with bowlers, it's amazing to see.”

At nearly halfway stage into the 2023 World Cup, Rohit Sharma stands as the second highest run-getter of the competition with 311 runs to his name. With a century and a half-century in his credit, the right-handed has minted his runs at an average of 62.20, all while holding a staggering strike-rate of 133.47, which is the highest among all batters with more than 250 runs so far in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma will now be seen leading his Indian troops against defending champions England on October 29. Their much-awaited standoff will be hosted by the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
