It's just five days to go to drench in the sky-high thrills of the upcoming edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup. With the tournament at the doorstep, teams are in a final push, fine-tuning their game plans and eyeing the coveted trophy.

Ahead of stepping into the big stage, teams are set to play some warm-up matches to check their last-minute preparations. As New Zealand Women gear up to face Australia Women, Jess Kerr hailed it as a golden opportunity to shine.

Warm-up matches set the stage for flawless preparations

After 2022, the Women’s ODI World Cup is back as India and Sri Lanka are hosting the 13th edition of the marquee event. As teams have already arrived in India, the New Zealand Women are all set to play two warm-up matches against India A Women and India Women in Bengaluru to fine-tune their World Cup preparation.

As they are all set to step into the game, New Zealand Women’s batter Jess Kerr witnessed this as a golden opportunity ahead of starting their World Cup run. Speaking to the New Zealand Cricket, Kerr highlighted the benefits of this.

“I think it's again just more game time, which is good for us. We've not had a whole heap of that this year, so getting those sort of formulas in place, finding ways to win, which will be important,” she said.

“Everything's leading up to that first game and we want to be really clinical with what we can put out against Australia in game one,” he added.

Training Camp In Chennai Proves To Be Beneficial

Before hitting the warm-up matches, Jess Kerr spent two weeks last month honing her skills at the Chennai Super Kings Academy under the guidance of head coach Ben Sawyer and Craig McMillan. She credits the intensive batting camp for sharpening her game and boosting her confidence ahead of the tournament

“Having being able to go to that batting camp in Chennai was of huge value. Just a lot of drilling and then a number of coaches who have experience of what works well in India,” she added.

As the New Zealand Women are all set to face the Australia Women in their opening fixture on October 1, Jess Ker is putting hope high. After winning the T20 World Cup for the side, the Kiwi batter is chasing the World Cup glory.
