India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, may face disciplinary action after a complaint was filed against him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The issue stems from remarks he made following India’s win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup group stage on September 14, 2025.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that it is reviewing the complaint and could hold a formal hearing. India’s victory against Pakistan by seven wickets was one of their biggest highlights of the Asia Cup. It was also their first match after the Pahalgam terror attacks and India’s military retaliation, Operation Sindoor.
Suryakumar Yadav May Face Disciplinary Action
After the match, Suryakumar dedicated the win to the families of the victims and the Indian Army. He repeated this sentiment during the post-match press conference.
“Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity... Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery,” he said during the post-match presentation.
Adding to the tension, the Indian players declined to shake hands with the Pakistan team after winning the match. These actions have now put Suryakumar in the spotlight.
According to Dainik Jagran report, the PCB has filed two complaints with the ICC, claiming that Suryakumar’s comments violated the “Spirit of Cricket.” The ICC’s match referee, Richie Richardson, has been assigned to review the matter.
In an email to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Richardson stated that Suryakumar’s remarks could be seen as damaging to the sport’s image.
"The ICC has asked me to handle two reports lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding comments made by your captain, Suryakumar Yadav, during the presentation and post-match press conference after the India vs Pakistan match on September 14 2025. After examining the full reports and reviewing the evidence, I have concluded that a charge should be brought against Suryakumar Yadav for conduct that brings the game into dispute by making inappropriate comments, which are detrimental to the interest of the game," the email reportedly said.
The next steps depend on how Suryakumar responds. If he accepts responsibility, Richardson will decide the penalty. If not, a formal inquiry will take place. This hearing would involve representatives from the ICC, BCCI, PCB, and Suryakumar himself.
A decision from the ICC is expected soon. Depending on the outcome, Suryakumar could face a ban or another form of punishment.
