In a heartfelt moment that touched fans across the nation, Ishan Kishan’s mother was seen in tears after her son’s selection in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Cameras captured her emotional reaction as she recalled the long and challenging journey Kishan went through to return to the national team.

Ishan made a remarkable comeback to the Indian side after almost two years and was seen visibly delighted alongside his mother. Once Ishan reached home, his mother spoke to News18 in an emotional interview, reflecting on the journey behind the return.

She spoke about the faith that carried her and Ishan through the last few months, overwhelmed by emotions as she recalled her son’s struggles and determination. Witnessing Kishan’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad brought her to tears.

"Nothing much, I was just praying, and tears came. He worked so hard and got the reward. God truly listened to a mother and to hard work. God has listened to the effort Ishan put in,” Ishan’s mother said.

While putting her emotions into words, she credited God for listening to her son’s hard work. Her response highlighted not only Kishan’s dedication but also the love, support, and sacrifices of a mother who stood by him through every challenge.

On Saturday, India’s chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia unveiled the squad that will defend the T20 World Cup title at home from February 7.

While familiar names dominated the list, the omission of vice-captain Shubman Gill sent shockwaves through the cricketing community. Gill was replaced by Ishan Kishan, whose selection followed a stellar Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 campaign.

The left-hander finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, amassing 517 runs in 10 innings at an average of 57.44 and a strike rate of 197.32, including a century in the final. Notably, Kishan had been out of India’s setup for over two years, making this comeback an emotional moment for him and those close to him.
