The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) slipped to a narrow four-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match number 21 of the IPL 2025 season at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The defeat marked KKR’s second in three games at their iconic home venue, prompting captain Ajinkya Rahane and franchise owners to question the magnitude of their “home advantage” off late.

Earlier this season, captain Rahane urged Eden Gardens’ pitch curator to make a spin-friendly wicket for KKR’s home games, a request which was rejected by the stadium official. Following KKR’s latest defeat to LSG, a franchise official reportedly had a sarcastic discussion with a member from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

KKR pitch controversy worsens after LSG defeat

According to a report by Bengali newspaper Sangbad Pratidin, a KKR official and a member from CAB had a sarcastic discussion after KKR’s latest four-run defeat to LSG in match 21 of the IPL 2025 season at the Eden Gardens. The report indicated that the KKR official joked about the pitch curator receiving the ‘Player of the Match’ award instead.

Earlier, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane also took a sly dig at the Eden Gardens’ pitch curator, saying that curator Sujan Mukherjee has already gotten much media publicity lately.

Nonetheless, the KKR franchise is currently ranked sixth on the IPL 2025 points table for securing two wins and sustaining three defeats from five matches. The defending champions will now face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai.

The match will be played on Friday, April 11 and the action is slated to commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards.
