Gautam Gambhir with Indian team in SL (X.com)
Gautam Gambhir is all set to begin his India head coach tenure with the tour of Sri Lanka and all eyes are set on the former KKR mentor and his style of functioning ahead of the maiden tour. He is known to be a taskmaster and very bold and clear about his views, and there are very high expectations from the man, after his trumph with KKR in IPL 2024.
Now, Gambhir's former India and KKR teammate, Robin Uthappa has also heaped praise of Gautam Gambhir's man-management skills in a virtual interaction organised by Sony Sports Network. Uthappa said that Gambhir's image on social media is quite serious but emphasised on the fact that Gautam Gambhir is quite a gentleman and very approchable.
He added that Gambhir provides security to the players and is always available and has the ability to produce great results.
"He has been an incredible man manager. The narrative that is set about him as a player on social media is one that is quite 'Gambhir'. But, I think, individually, he is a thorough gentleman. He will be absolutely approachable. He is someone who is always available, he is very empathetic and he is there for his players. He looks after his players really well and he is someone who provides security for the group. We have seen that, not just as a captain, but in his mentorship roles at LSG and KKR. We have seen the results he has produced with both teams."
Rohit-Gambhir Combo Different But Effective
Uthappa also stated that his leadership style will not change in Indian colours and added that he will bring passion to the table. He asserted that Gambhir will expect high standards from the players and felt that Rohit and Gambhir will be a different combination as compared to Rohit and Dravid but will be as successful.
"I don't think his leadership style will change very much. I just think that his passion and the intensity that he brings to this team will be different. He will expect high standards, and he will maintain a high standard himself as a leader. I think he will be a very fair leader and he is someone who provides security to his group. So, I think Rohit and Gautam will make a different combination than Rohit and Dravid, but I think it will be as effective."
India are all set to play T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, and the first T20I will be played on 27th of July, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the pack.
