After a disappointing run in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, Pakistan have been criticised for their prolonged struggle. The Men in Green hosted an ICC event after 29 long years, but the team ended its campaign without a victory.

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi didn’t hold himself from criticising the entire team and the cricket board. He also raised concerns about Pakistan’s squad for their upcoming series against New Zealand. However, former PCB chairman Ehsan Mani had a different perspective, openly disagreeing with Afridi’s criticism.

Ehsan Mani’s Different Take On Men In Green

After Pakistan were eliminated from the group stage in the Champions Trophy, criticism came all the way. Former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi also slammed the players for their poor form.

With the Men in Green gearing up for a T20I series against New Zealand, Afridi also questioned their squad selection. But former PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani shared a different take on that and opposed Afridi’s remarks.

Mani believes that the PCB chairman and the board’s directors need to come along to steer Pakistan cricket in the right direction after a string of disappointing performances in major ICC tournaments.

“I do not give any credibility to what Shahid Afridi or anyone else says. They have their personal agendas or whatever. So, I wouldn't go there. No comment on that. All I would say is that leadership must come from the chairman and from the board of directors of PCB. For the rest, I don't give much credibility to these criticisms.” Mani said.

Pakistan Aim For A Fresh Start On NZ Tour

In the last few years, Pakistan’s performance in major cricketing events has raised concerns. After the 2023 ODI World Cup, the 2024 T20I World Cup, and now even the Champions Trophy 2025, they failed to rectify their errors and end another ICC tournament with heartbreak. But now, they are approaching a fresh start.

In their next cricketing assignment, they are set to face the Kiwis in a limited-over series including 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. Senior players like Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam and Naseem Shah have been left out of the T20I squad, while Salman Ali Agha will lead the side in the five-match series.
