Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma annihilated Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) hapless bowling attack at Hyderabad in match number 57 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Chasing 166 for a win, the two cricketers gunned down their target in just 9.4 overs with all 10 wickets intact in the game.

Head was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for initiating the onslaught and for finishing at a sizzling 30-ball 89* at the end of the run-chase.

Travis Head (30-ball 89*) crashed eight boundaries and as many sixes to help SRH gun down LSG’s 165 in just 9.4 overs alongside young Abhishek Sharma.

The dynamic Australian opener initiated SRH’s onslaught by taking on LSG spinners Krishnappa Gowtham and Ravi Bishnoi inside the powerplay.

While speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Head spoke about his newfound expertise against spin and how it will likely play a ‘big part’ for the Australian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

“Something I've been working hard is spin. It will play a big part in the Caribbean as well in the World Cup. The last 12 months in Australia, that's how they have wanted me to play. I am not trying to change anything, trying to maximize the powerplay which we are doing OK at the moment."

Travis Head also hailed young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, who pounded 75* from just 28 balls against LSG in the game. The Australian batter further stated that he is enjoying his batting association with the youngster.

“Beautiful to know how hard he works and how deep he (Abhishek Sharma) thinks about the game. Nice to see him get some time in the middle today. It is something I have never seen. Whenever he comes down the wicket, he middles it and we complement each other so well in that sense. The partnership's going well. I'm loving batting with him.”

Travis Head appreciated the crowd support and described SRH’s win a positive outcome before their next game against Gujarat Titans in a week’s time.

Travis Head along with the rest of his SRH teammates will now face Gujarat Titans on May 16 at Hyderabad. The match will mark their penultimate league fixture of the IPL 2024 season.
