As expected Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) appointed former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower as their new head coach replacing former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar.

Flower, who recently worked with Australia's Test side during their England tour, coached IPL side Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) until last season. Flower, 55, brings in the vast experience of coaching, having had successful stints with England, Multan Sultans, Gulf Giants, and Trent Rockets.

In a statement, Flower expressed excitement over working with RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who he has worked in the past, and thanked outing Team Director Mike Hesson and Bangar for their services.

'Excited to be reunited with Faf'- Andy Flower

"I recognise the work put in by Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, who are two coaches I respect, I look forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights. I’m particularly excited to be reunited with Faf. We have worked very well together in the past and I look forward to forging our partnership and relationship into something bigger and better."

The former Ashes-winning coach also looked forward to coaching RCB, which is quite a herculean challenge given the fanfare surrounding the franchise.

"I am really proud to be joining RCB. I’m truly honoured to represent a franchise of their size, reputation and standing. RCB have an unrivalled fan following and I can’t wait to fully experience the atmosphere in the Chinnaswamy next season."

"We have an exciting roster of players to work with, and I recognise and will relish both the amazing opportunity with RCB but also the responsibility that comes with the role. It is a great challenge, and I can’t wait to get started."
