At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm, etching his name into cricketing history with a blistering 35-ball century the second-fastest hundred in the tournament’s history.

But amid his meteoric rise, former India coach Greg Chappell has issued a measured warning to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Greg Chappell's Special Advice On Suryavanshi

In his latest column for ESPN Cricinfo, Chappell recalled the distinct journeys of three of India’s most talked-about stars -Tendulkar, Kambli, and Shaw.

“Sachin Tendulkar succeeded as a teenager not simply due to talent but because of a solid support system - a stoic temperament, a wise coach, a family that protected him from the circus. On the other hand, Vinod Kambli, equally talented and perhaps more flamboyant, struggled to balance fame and discipline. His fall was as dramatic as his rise. Prithvi Shaw is another wunderkind who has fallen but may yet find a way back to the pinnacle,” Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo.

The cricketing world is no stranger to young sensations. While Sachin Tendulkar went on to become arguably the greatest batter the game has ever seen after debuting at 16. Others like Vinod Kambli and Shaw are the ones who burned bright but faded too soon.

He also added that Kambli, despite being as gifted, lacked the same emotional and disciplinary support, which contributed to a rapid fall from grace.

The Dramatic Journey Of Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw, who once led India to an U-19 World Cup title in 2018 and debuted for the senior team amid huge expectations, has seen his career stall due to off-field issues, fitness lapses, and poor discipline.

As Vaibhav is in the spotlight, the real challenge now lies in managing his career trajectory. Chappell, have urged the BCCI to ensure a structured development plan for him. The plan should include mental health support, media training, fitness conditioning, and mentor guidance  to help him navigate fame at such a young age.

Vaibhav, the youngest player in this year's IPL, has showcased composure, fearlessness, and sheer strokeplay beyond his age. In his debut season, he has already made headlines proving that talent can trump age when given the right platform.
