There was a time when people could not stop raving about Prasidh Krishna. Tall, wiry and bowling thunderbolts with that typical hit-the-deck action, he looked like the next big thing in Indian fast bowling.

But somewhere along the way, the hype fizzled out. Injuries mounted. Opportunities dried up. And just like that, he faded into the background. Until now.

Prasidh Krishna Is the Comeback Story IPL 2025 Didn’t See Coming

This IPL 2025, Prasidh Krishna has turned it around. And how! From being tagged as a wasted talent to leading Gujarat Titans’ bowling unit and becoming the highest wicket-taker this season, the man has gone from rehab regular to strike weapon.

Let’s rewind the clock a bit. Prasidh was always seen as a rare fast-bowling gem in India’s cricketing mines. Not many Indian pacers check all the boxes: pace, bounce, height and movement but he did.

Yet, for all that promise, his body never quite kept up with the workload. Between 2022 and 2024, it felt like the National Cricket Academy was his second home. A stress fracture, a major quadriceps surgery and multiple rehab stints later, the doubts had crept in.

He missed almost all of IPL action in that phase and even his Test return for India was delayed. When his name did pop up, it came with sighs and eye-rolls. "What a waste," they’d say.

GT’s Gamble Pays Off

Coming to the present, Gujarat Titans decided to roll the dice. And it hit the jackpot. With Mohammed Siraj handling the new ball duties, GT gave Prasidh a clear role: dominate the middle overs.

And he has absolutely bossed it. He is not only their go-to bowler in crunch situations but has become the best middle-over pacer in the league this season.

Middle Overs Mastery

Middle overs (7-15) are usually spinners' playground. But Prasidh has made it his hunting ground. In IPL 2025, he has bowled 21 overs out of 39 in that phase, picked 7 wickets and has an economy of just 6.52.

That is not just tidy, that is gold dust in T20 cricket. And it’s not like he is just drying up runs. His average of 19.6 and strike rate of 18.0 show he is striking consistently too.

That is a serious upgrade. He has become more street-smart, knows when to pitch it short, when to go into the pitch and when to surprise the batter with that hard length.

The Bounce Has Bite Now

He always had steep bounce in his arsenal, the kind that rushes batters and makes hooking risky. But earlier, it was hit-and-miss. A good over would be followed by a juicy half-volley or a wide bouncer. That inconsistency hurt him.

This season, though, he has ironed that out. The control is sharper, the rhythm is cleaner and there is that quiet confidence in his body language.

It also helps that Ahmedabad offers both red soil (fast and bouncy) and black soil (slow and sticky) pitches. And Prasidh has found ways to thrive on both. That tells you how much he has evolved as a thinking bowler.

Powerplay Isn't His Zone But He Is Holding Fort

Even though he is not GT’s primary new-ball option, Prasidh has still chipped in during the powerplay. In 2025, he has bowled 8 overs in that phase, taken 2 wickets, and gone at 7.50 RPO. Not bad at all, considering the carnage that usually unfolds in the first six.

Again, compare that to his powerplay stats from 2018-2022, Prasidh has definitely tightened things up.

Leader Of The Pack

Let’s not forget, he is not just a cog in the wheel anymore, he is leading the Gujarat Titans' attack. With 19 wickets in 11 games, Prasidh currently wears the Purple Cap.

That is no fluke. He ha taken down top batters, bowled in the toughest phases and handled pressure like a seasoned campaigner.

And mind you, this isn’t a guy bowling in the 17th or 18th overs when the job’s half done. He is doing the dirty work in the middle where games are won or lost quietly.

What’s Clicked For Prasidh 2.0?

  • Better Fitness: He has clearly worked hard on his body. You can see it in his repeatability and pace.
  • Clarity Of Role: GT has given him a defined phase, and he is thriving with that backing.
  • Length And Control: He has nailed that hard length just short of a good length, hitting it consistently with sharp bounce and far better discipline than before.
  • Smart Bowling: The variety, the use of angles and the understanding of surfaces, it’s all matured.
  • Mental Toughness: From being labelled a "wasted potential" to shutting critics with his performances, that’s mental strength.

Why His Comeback Matters?

India doesn’t produce too many pacers who tick all the boxes: tall, genuinely quick, sharp bounce and skill in middle overs. Prasidh was always meant to be that guy. IPL 2025 has shown what happens when talent meets patience and opportunity.

Prasidh Krishna 2.0 is here and he is putting the league on notice. For someone who was once labelled a wasted opportunity, this season has been a giant slap to that narrative. His rise shows: never count a good fast bowler out, especially one with bounce, brains and a burning desire to prove a point
