With too many rumours spreading around like wildfire, Pakistan's star batter, Fakhar Zaman, had to come up and speak in the recent video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The left-handed batter addressed the issue of his comeback while speaking on the matter circulating on media platforms.
Fakhar Zaman Breaks Silence On Retirement Rumors
Pakistan's opening star batter Fakhar Zaman, who was ruled out of the tournament in the very first game against New Zealand in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, has opened up in the video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board on their X account.
"Yes, I have heard the rumours. Many of my friends texted me about it, but there is no truth to it. The media can say whatever they want. The ODI format is my favourite, and I want to continue playing all three formats. But retirement never crossed my mind. I want to play One-day, T20, even I want to play Test cricket,"
The news is that Zaman has dismissed all rumours regarding his retirement, which have been doing rounds on social media, including that he's likely to hang up his boots from the one-day format following the conclusion of Champions Trophy 2025. Zaman has openly addressed the issue and confirmed that all these reports are baseless.
"As far as my comeback (from injury) is concerned, I will hopefully return to competitive cricket in a month. I got an idea (about my Champions Trophy campaign ending) after the pain I felt,"
Adding to this, Fakhar has provided his comeback date, which, according to him, should be sometime around a month, which is what his doctors have suggested. The left-hander went further to reveal that he has been suffering from hyperthyroidism, which has been a significant cause of concern for him.
"I thought about taking some time off due to my thyroid condition, but I'll be back in a month."
Fakhar Zaman's Tough Time On The Field
To the unversed, Fakhar sustained a muscle strain while fielding against New Zealand in the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Following this, he could not open the innings and had to bat second down in the line-up while the hosts were chasing a mammoth target of 321. Fakhar came in at number four and scored 24 off 41 deliveries before getting cleaned up by Michael Bracewell.
His 24 came after he endured a lot of pain while batting, as even walking was proving difficult for him. Ultimately, they could only score 260 before getting bowled out inside 48 overs as they lost the opening game by 60 runs. As for Fakhar, who has featured in 86 ODIs for Pakistan so far, has 3,651 runs at an average of 46.22 in his overall one-day career.
Pakistan, meanwhile, called Imam-ul-Haq to replace Zaman, who could only score 10 in the game against India.
