In a recent turn of events, Western Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff has decided to retire from domestic cricket with immediate effect. However, the left-arm quick has agreed to remain available for T20 cricket in the upcoming years.
Jason Behrendorff Quits Western Australian Cricket
The left-arm fast bowler from Western Australia, Jason Behrendorff, who will be 35 in April, has decided to call it quits in state cricket. The pacer, who has spent a considerable amount of time playing for his domestic side, has bid adieu to the Sheffield Shield and One-Day domestic cup in Australia.
However, the major news is that Behrendorff will still continue to play for his Big Bash League side, Melbourne Renegades, as he has signed a three-year deal with the club. Moreover, Behrendorff, who was previously a part of Perth Scorchers, has won four BBL titles over his 13-year career, which spanned 106 games.

Adding to this, the left-armer has featured in 31 first-class matches, where he has picked up 126 wickets at an average of 23.85. He has maintained an economy rate of 3.14. While in List-A cricket, he has 97 wickets from 70 games at an economy of 4.87, averaging 28.68.
Regarding his IPL career, Behrendorff has featured for Mumbai Indians in 17 games, where he has 19 wickets in two seasons (2019 and 2023) with the franchise. He was also a part of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL during the year 2021 but could not play due to the Covid postponement.
The pacer has also featured in 17 T20I matches for Australia, picking up 18 wickets at an economy of 8.35. Additionally, he will remain available to play T20 Internationals for Australia if any opportunity arises.
Moreover, Behrendorff last featured in a first-class game for Western Australia back in 2017, after which he had to withdraw from the format following a plethora of injuries that hampered his overall career.
With more time in hand, Behrendorff will now focus on playing T20 franchise cricket all over the world. His recent three-match stint with the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 2025 exemplifies this.
