'Don't Think Mathews Had Presence Of Mind'- RCB Star On 'Timed Out' Controversy

In an unwanted record, Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews became the first batter in history to be given 'Timed Out', which has snowballed into a massive controversy and has seen polarising views upon the mode of dismissal, which according to MCC is legal.

Upon Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan's appeal, umpires adjudged Mathews 'Timed Out' in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 encounter in Delhi, where the latter failed to face a ball within the speculated two minutes between dismissal.

Speaking on the Mathews fiasco, Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has opined on the Lankan all-rounder's unfortunate dismissal.

As quoted by Cricbuzz, Karthik stated that Mathews could have shown the presence of mind and faced a ball regardless of the head strap giving away, then things would have been perfect.

Here's what Karthik said

"If Angelo Mathews would have faced one ball and then asked for the helmet, nothing would have happened. I don't think that he had the presence of mind at that point, but more importantly, I think that never in his wildest dreams, Mathews would have thought that somebody would have asked for timed-out. That is the more important thing."

The 36-year-old has provided proof on social media about the fourth umpire being wrong about the timing, and that he reached the crease within the time limit. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's World Cup campaign is over, having won just two matches out their nine.
