Gautam Gambhir is known for his serious and focused attitude, rarely showing emotions on camera. But after India’s huge 336-run win over England in the second Test at Edgbaston, even Gambhir couldn’t hide his joy. And this rare moment didn’t go unnoticed by former India head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri.

Before the match, Shastri had strongly criticised the Indian team’s decision to rest star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. He questioned why Bumrah was being rested when there was a week’s gap after the first Test in Leeds, where he was India’s best bowler.

However, India proved the critics wrong. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with stunning scores of 269 and 161. In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, debutant Akash Deep stepped up and took 10 wickets in the match, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings.

His brilliant bowling helped India bowl out England and win the game by a record margin of 336 runs, their biggest victory overseas by runs.

During the post-match coverage, cameras showed Gambhir smiling after the win, a rare sight. Shastri, watching from the commentary box, was quick to react.

“Don’t see that smile too often, but he deserves every bit of it. There is no better feeling for a coach than when your team bounces back to keep the series alive,” Shastri said on air.

The win helped India level the five-match series 1-1 and silenced all doubts about team decisions. Gambhir’s calm but tough approach, combined with brave selections like giving Akash Deep a chance, showed that India’s new setup under him and Gill is ready to fight back, even without their star players.

Akash Deep Credits Gambhir For Edgbaston

India’s star bowler Akash Deep credited head coach Gautam Gambhir for his breakthrough performance in the Edgbaston Test, saying the former cricketer gave him belief in his own talent.

After taking 10 wickets in the match, Akash revealed in press conference that Gambhir told him, “You don’t even know how much skill you have. Sometimes we don’t even understand our own ability. But when someone like him says it, it lifts you completely.” The pacer said such words gave him huge confidence.
