Legendary Australian batter Steve Smith has opened up on being ignored for T20 internationals.

Arguably the greatest Test batter of the modern game, Smith was ignored for the T20 World Cup 2024, during which Australia crashed out of the Super Eights following a disastrous defeat against the eventual champions, India.

Meanwhile, Smith believes that Australia preferred power-hitters over him to create a ruthless batting unit for the mega event.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, the right-handed batter said he was unbothered by his omission and would focus on evolving his T20 batting skills.

"In terms of international T20s, I do not know what is going on there. They have got some people they want to bring in, and that is fine," Smith stated.

"I understood the way that they wanted to stack up for the World Cup, with all the strong guys that smack it miles. I understood that. I am not that fussed. I will just go about my business, keep trying to improve and get better," he added.

Smith has played 67 T20 Internationals for Australia, amassing 1094 runs at a modest average of 25.44 and a strike rate of 125.46.

Despite being given a chance, his horrendous run in the New Zealand T20Is played a pivotal role in his World Cup exclusion.
