Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced yet another defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, making it their fifth loss in a row. On April 3, they played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and lost the match by just 2 runs.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed fingers at Ravindra Jadeja for not finishing the run chase. Despite Jadeja staying unbeaten with 77 runs, Chopra felt he should have taken CSK over the line, especially after getting such a good start and being promoted to bat at number 4.

Speaking on the "Kuhl Fans Match Center" on JioHotstar, Chopra said Jadeja had a strong start but couldn’t finish the job, which was disappointing for someone who has been retained by CSK for ₹18 crore. He added that it wasn’t fair to expect Dhoni or Shivam Dube to save the match, as they only faced a few deliveries.

“Now, when you’ve got that start, you lose your partner who scored 94 and has been dismissed- you need to take the team home. Don’t expect Dhoni to do it. If Dhoni does it—great. If Shivam Dube does it—very well done. But the fact is, you are the guy on that night. You’ve been promoted to bat at four, you’ve got the start, and there is no excuse from there on. If there are full tosses, they should be deposited. In the end, the buck stops with Jadeja in this run chase,” Chopra said.

RCB Seal Clinical Win Against CSK

RCB batted first and had a solid opening partnership of 97 runs between Jacob Bethell (53) and Virat Kohli (62). CSK made a comeback during the middle overs thanks to Matheesha Pathirana, who took 3 wickets. But Romario Shepherd stole the show at the end with a fiery 14-ball fifty, the second-fastest in IPL history, pushing RCB’s total to 213/5.

In reply, CSK seemed in control, mainly due to a brilliant 94-run knock by Ayush Mhatre and his partnership with Jadeja. But RCB’s bowlers, especially Yash Dayal in the final over, kept their nerves and pulled off a thrilling win by just 3 runs.

With this win, RCB are now at the top of the points table, with 16 points and closer to the playoffs race. Meanwhile, CSK are still at the bottom of the table, with 4 points.
