In a night to remember at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart Virat Kohli etched his name in the IPL history, breaking multiple records during RCB’s thrilling two-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 season.

Virat Kohli Unique Record In IPL

Opening the innings for RCB, Kohli delivered a masterclass with a quickfire 62 off just 33 balls. This knock marked his seventh fifty of the ongoing season. But more significantly, it saw Kohli surpass former Australian opener David Warner’s record for the most 500+ runs scored by a batter in IPL history.

His consistent form this season took him past the 500-run mark for the eighth time in his IPL career. Previously, David Warner held the record with seven such seasons. Kohli now leads the pack, followed by KL Rahul (6), Shikhar Dhawan (5).

Virat Kohli’s 505 runs in 11 innings in IPL 2025 now place him at the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard. His form has been crucial in RCB’s resurgence this season, with the team now sitting atop the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points. 

His career-best season came in 2016 when he amassed a staggering 973 runs in 16 innings, a record that still stands today. In the 2024 edition, he scored 741 runs in 15 innings as RCB powered their way to the playoffs.

Kohli’s IPL journey has been one of unmatched consistency and commitment. In 255 innings, he has scored 8,509 runs-the most in the tournament’s history.
