The stage is set for a third India vs Pakistan encounter as the two neighbours will battle for supremacy in the finals of the Asia Cup 2025. India has the upper hand as they decimated Pakistan in the group stage, and the Super 4 clash, but the Men in Green will enter the finale on the back of two must-win games against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
However, instead of actual cricket, the tournament has been marred by controversies from both finalists. After the Pahalgam terror attack, things have escalated between the two nations, and the on-field fights have also increased.
Naqvi threatens India before Asia Cup final
Moreover, to rub salt into the wounds, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, reportedly made a fiery remark before the finals. As per reports, the Chairman gave a free-hand to the Pakistan players to do whatever they want to do on the field.
"Do whatever you want, I’ll handle it," Naqvi stated, as per reports by Qadir Khawaja.
Not the first time Naqvi made controversial remark
Naqvi is a controversial figure in Pakistan cricket, and the chairman of both PCB and ACC made a questionable gesture after Haris Rauf mocked the Indian fans, mimicking a fighter jet getting shot down. Rauf was trolled for his gesture as he failed to deliver the goods against India.
In the aftermath, Naqvi took to the social media handle X, and uploaded a video of Cristiano Ronaldo, wherein the Portuguese star could be seen making gestures of a plane crashing down. It indirectly insinuated that Pakistan shot down six-Indian fighter jets. The statement didn’t go well with the Indian media as the Chairman was criticised for his unnecessary behaviour off the field, and especially at a time when things have escalated between two sides.
