After days of speculation and rumours, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named India's squad for the upcoming T20Is against Afghanistan on Sunday, which will see both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli make a return.

Sharma will continue to lead India in the absence of players like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, who have been in contention for the T20I captaincy of late.

Former South African captain Graeme Smith, who is known for taking the Proteas to great heights during his tenure, stated that Indian selectors will find it tough to balance the perfect blend of youth and experience for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2024.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will begin on June 1 and will see arch-rivals India and Pakistan clubbed together alongside Ireland, Canada, and the USA in Group A.

As quoted by ANI, Smith claimed that with the amount of talent India has, coaches and selection panel will have difficult choices to make.

Difficult Choice To Make - Graeme Smith

"It's about balancing workloads and introducing new players at various times, giving opportunity to the player with the amount of cricket India plays. We have seen IPL produce a serious amount of talent for India in this format. I think the selection panel and coaches have to figure out what stars they want and what squad they want to take from India to play on those types of pitches. With the amount of talent that India has now, it is a difficult choice to make. I think balancing some experience with ........ also how they go about that."

For the three-T20I series against Afghanistan, selectors have called several players back into the reckoning, like Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel, who made a comeback after a while.

The first T20I will be played on January 11 in Mohali.
