Out of favour Team India batter and Mumbai's stalwart Ajinkya Rahane is hopeful of featuring in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 edition after a minor injury forced the player to sit out the Bihar clash in Patna.

As quoted by India Today, captain Rahane revealed that during a practice session, the middle-order batter suffered a minor injury to his neck and is hopeful of playing in upcoming matches for Mumbai.

Will Definitely Play - Rahane

"I have a great passion for playing, and that's why I came to Patna. I never back down from playing. However, during a practice session, I suffered a minor injury in my neck. That's why I am not playing this match. But I will definitely play in the upcoming Ranji matches."

Interestingly, upon arrival in Patna, the Mumbai Ranji side were felicitated before the match, following the 35-year-old expressing his gratitude towards the crowd, who came out in massive numbers to support both teams.

However, when asked about his comeback to the national side for the upcoming England Test series, the former India captain opted to stay quiet.

In the ongoing Elite Group B encounter at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Mumbai were bundled out of 251 in their first innings, while Bihar managed just 100. In the second innings after a follow-on, the hosts are 91 for 6 and still trailing by 60 runs.

Mumbai will next play Andhra on January 12 at Wankhede, while Bihar will clash swords with Chhattisgarh.
