'Didn't Panic': Hayden Lauds Rohit Sharma's Captaincy In India's Semi-Final Win

With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 happening in India, expectations from the Rohit Sharma-led side were sky-high, which Team India have managed to meet.

With 10 wins in a row, India have qualified for the final of the marquee event, which will take place on Sunday (November 19) at Ahmedabad, where the hosts will either face Australia or South Africa.

Despite being dominant, India were put under the pump by Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell in last evening's semi-final clash at the Wankhede, which brought out the best in skipper Rohit.

Former Australian opener, and two-time World Cup winner Matthew Hayden lauded the Indian skipper for his leadership in the match against the Black Caps, which could have drifted away after Williamson and Mitchell's 181-run stand.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Hayden hailed Sharma's proactiveness and ability to remain calm in crunch moments as a reason behind India's win.

Here's what Hayden said

"He didn't let the game drift. He didn't panic. India went missing there for half an hour; it was a crazy 30 minutes of wonderful batting by Daryl Mitchell, supported by skipper Kane Williamson. But he didn't let that affect the team. He pulled back his main men. There were two or three wickets back-to-back, and then the tables turned."

As a batter too Sharma has set the tone for India, displaying a selfless approach, amassing 550 runs in 10 matches, which could easily have seen more hundreds than one.
