In a clash that will decide the second finalist in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia and South Africa will lock horns in Eden Gardens at Kolkata today in the second semi-final.

While Australia, who are a five-time World Cup winner, will look to add a sixth title to their cabinet after setting up a date with India on Sunday, South Africa will be hoping to enter their maiden World Cup final and end their trophy drought.

In World Cups, both Australia and South Africa have won three apiece, with one match ending in a tie.

With rain threatening to play spoilsport at Eden Gardens, speaking to The West Australian, former Australian opener and legend Adam Gilchrist has stated that the Proteas are worthy of moving ahead incase of a washout.

As per regulations, South Africa will qualify for the final based on their position in the group stage, where they finished second above Australia by virtue of a better net run rate despite being on the same points.

Here's what Gilchrist said

"South Africa have earned the right to final if semifinal washed out,"

South Africa thrashed Australia in their group stage encounter at Lucknow, winning the match a mammoth 134-run margin, gaining psychological advantage. However, in the ongoing contest, the Proteas are struggling to score runs, and have lost 4 wickets.
