With the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the focus for all boards now shifts towards the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played in 2024 and co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.

For the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it is time to decide upon the future of their biggest match-winners in T20Is, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Both players haven't featured in a T20I match since November 2022, which makes their future in the format uncertain. Kohli leads the batting charts for T20Is with 4,008, while Sharma comes a close second with 3,853 runs.

Former India captain Kapil Dev has entered the fray and given his two cents on the ongoing Sharma-Kohli debate. As quoted by ANI, Dev stated that the decision falls on the selectors, and they know what is better for India.

Here's what Dev said

"This depends on the selectors, we can't put our finger everywhere. It is their decision, they should do what they feel is right."

Sharma in IPL 2023 struggled to find form, scoring 332 runs from 16 matches, however, Kohli underwent a purple patch amassing 639 runs from 14 games. The upcoming IPL 2024 will provide more insight into the duo's T20I future, given the competition acts as a precursor to T20 WC.

India will play three T20Is against South Africa and Afghanistan, respectively leading into the global showpiece in June.
