'Hope Rinku Singh Is Ready To Play Any Role, Not Just...': GT Head Coach Ashish Nehra

The emergence of Rinku Singh in Indian cricket has led to former players and fans calling the youngster a finisher, much like former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Rinku, in his brief career, has showcased the temperament of a finisher while exhibiting his wide range of shots, which is crucial for any batting coming into bat in the lower-order position.

In the ongoing T20Is against Australia, Singh shined in the first and second encounters at Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram slamming a 14-ball 22 and a 9-ball 31, respectively.

Having seen Singh from close quarters, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has called the 26-year-old a 'great asset' for India in the coming future. As quoted by India Today, the former India pacer also stated how Singh should not be classified into a finisher role, and excel in all possible positions.

Here's what Nehra said

"I am not a big fan of the word 'finisher'. Your opener can be a finisher, if he scores a hundred, he can finish the game and come back. At times, it can be harsh let me give you an example, if the same Rinku Singh doesn't finish the game once or twice. Coming back to Rinku Singh, he is someone who can even play up the order, I can see him playing in 50-over cricket going forward. He can bat at No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6."

"On any odd day, the Indian team can be 40 for 4 in 5-6 overs. And I hope Rinku Singh is ready to play any role, I hope he doesn't want to be tagged himself as a finisher. He should be looking to excel in all departments."

Meanwhile, as expected Rinku has been retained by KKR for Indian Premier League 2024 edition.
