Glenn Maxwell joined Indian captain Rohit Sharma for an all-time T20I record through the course of his match-winning epic against India in Guwahati.

The Australian all-rounder clobbered 104 unbeaten runs off just 48 balls to orchestrate a dramatic Australian comeback in a monumental run-chase. The innings marked Maxwell’s fourth T20I ton, thus bringing him on levelling terms with the dashing Indian opening batsman for a huge record.

Glenn Maxwell joins Rohit Sharma in T20I centuries

Glenn Maxwell, playing the 100th match of his T20I career, celebrated the occasion with a scintillating match-winning century against India. The innings marked his fourth T20I century, as he joins dashing opening batsman Rohit Sharma in terms of highest number of centuries recorded in the game’s truncated format.

Remarkably, Maxwell raced to his four centuries from just 92 T20I innings, while Sharma has so far appeared in 140 innings to get to the same number.

As of now, both cricketers are leading the T20I century race, and are followed by three-time centurions Babar Azam, Suryakumar Yadav, S Davizi and Colin Munro. Meanwhile, 11 additional players have registered two T20I hundreds, including the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller and Brendon McCullum.

With Rohit Sharma opting himself out of the ongoing series citing World Cup 2023 fatigue, Maxwell now has the opportunity to blaze past the Indian captain and scale the all-time record for himself.

The dashing all-rounder will next be seen in Australia’s must-win fourth T20I match against hosts India on December 1. The much-awaited showdown will be hosted by the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
