The hunt for India's next head coach is on, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively reaching out to potential candidates.

In the latest, the BCCI offered former India bowler and current Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra the role of India's T20I head coach, which the 44-year-old declined as per an Indian Express report.

Nehra declines coaching post

With Nehra refusing the offer, BCCI is keen on continuing Rahul Dravid as a coach across all three formats until the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Interestingly, BCCI has applied for visas for both Dravid and VVS Laxman, the latter is currently the interim coach of India in the ongoing T20I series against Australia.

The BCCI have also readied paperwork for respective support staff members for Dravid and Laxman. However, the visas to Laxman and Co. could also be due to India 'A' series in South Africa simultaneously.

Nehra took Gujarat Titans for their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, who were playing their first-ever season, and then finished as runners-up in the 2023 edition. Meanwhile, Dravid is unsure about agreeing to a long-term deal with BCCI and has offers from a few IPL franchises, for the role of mentor.

BCCI needs to make a firm decision soon, with the South African tour commencing on December 10, where Team India will play three ODIs, three T20Is and two Tests.
