Suryakumar Yadav could not stop smiling as he addressed the press after India sealed the T20I series against Australia. Despite weather interruptions affecting parts of the series, the Indian captain was full of praise for his players.

The fifth and final T20I of the series was abandoned due to rain and lightning in Brisbane. With that, India emerged victorious with a 2-1 lead. It also marked the team’s first T20I series win on Australian soil after five long years. Needless to say, the skipper was happy.

Suryakumar Yadav reflects on T20 World Cup plans

Speaking to the media after the Gabba washout, India captain Suryakumar Yadav applauded his boys for bouncing back after a defeat in the second T20I held at the MCG. The captain also reflected on how both the fast bowlers and spinners have learnt to complement each other perfectly.

"Weather isn't in our control. Credit to all the boys to bounce back after losing the first game. Bowlers, fast and spin, know their roles really well. Bumrah, Arshdeep and the spinners are all doing really well. They bring a lot to the table, plan for things and execute them which is what you want," SKY said.

With the 2026 T20 World Cup just a few months away, Suryakumar Yadav hinted at the good headache selectors face in finalising the squad. India’s batting unit, in particular, has created competition for places, a sign of healthy depth and form.

"Squad-related thing is a good headache to have before the World Cup. We had a good series here in Australia. We have two more T20I series to come. Very good series against South Africa and New Zealand. Everyone has so many runs and wickets on their back. It is a good headache to have. We will see it going forward." he added.

The skipper also took a moment to acknowledge the recent triumph of the Indian women’s team, who lifted the 2025 Women’s World Cup, saying it has created a new wave of excitement and pride within Indian cricket.

"I saw recently what happened with the women's team, who won the WC. There's a lot of excitement, support and responsibility at home. Exciting tournament but still a couple of series to go."

For now, though, Suryakumar Yadav remains grounded. The win over Australia, he believes, is just one step in a longer journey. As the 2026 T20 World Cup inches closer, the management will be keen on fixing a lineup and sticking to it without any unnecessary experiments.
