Shubman Gill showed he is ready to lead India in cricket by scoring a fantastic century on Day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. At 25 years old, he proved he can handle the pressure of captaincy and play very well in the longer format of the game.
Gill looked very calm and confident at the crease. He reached 114 runs without getting out by the end of the day. His strong and smart batting helped India stay steady even when things got tough.
Sachin Tendulkar Applauds Gill And Jaiswal
The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised both Shubman Gill and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for their great batting on the first day. Tendulkar called Gill “cool as ever” and said he was “in total control.” He wrote,
"@ybj_19 set the tone from ball one. He was positive, fearless and smartly aggressive. @ShubmanGill was cool as ever, calm under pressure, solid in defence and in total control. Classy knocks from both. Well played, boys!"
Shubman Gill And Ravindra Jadeja Steady The Ship
Notably, India made three changes to their team, resting star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to manage his workload. Meanwhile, England started strong with their bowlers making the ball move and bounce, but India’s batsmen handled the conditions well.
India lost an early wicket, but Jaiswal and Gill worked hard to build a strong score. Jaiswal scored 87 runs before getting out, and Gill stayed unbeaten at 114. Together, Gill and Ravindra Jadeja put on 99 runs without losing any more wickets, helping India reach 310 runs for 5 wickets at the end of the day.
Even though India lost the first Test match, Shubman Gill’s strong performance gives hope for the rest of the series. He knows how quickly things can change in cricket and aims to keep India steady when he goes back to bat on Day 2 at Edgbaston.
