Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed referred to Rohit Sharma as a ‘fat’ and ‘most unimpressive’ captain of the Indian cricket team. After social media backlash, the party distanced themselves from Shama’s comments and asked her to delete the tweet.
Congress party leader Shama Mohamed posted a distasteful remark, body shaming Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma.
In a tweet posted on X handle, she said that Rohit is too fat for a sportsperson and looks unimpressive as captain.
Not only that, she went to question Rohit Sharma’s credibility compared to former legends like Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

However, fans took objection to the tweet and called out Mohamed on social media platforms. The matter escalated as the Congress party interfered and distanced the party’s ideology from the remark. They also asked Shama Mohamed to delete the tweet in question.
Pawan Khera, Congress’ media and publicity head, put out a clarification, stating the party respects sports personalities' contributions to the nation.
Shama also responded to the criticism, saying she is being targeted for telling the truth.
Rohit at centre of major political war
Meanwhile, Shama Mohamed’s tweet on Rohit Sharma has ignited a political debate as the ruling party, BJP, intervened in the matter to call out the opposition party. Shehzad Poonawalla, BJP’s national spokesperson, put out a tweet questioning Rahul Gandhi’s leadership credibility.
He explained that under Gandhi’s leadership, Congress has lost a record number of elections which makes him an incompetent leader.
For now, Shama Mohamed's tweets have been deleted. However, this political chase between Congress and BJP will only intensify in the future.
As for Rohit Sharma, his next plan of action is to fight Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025.
