An in-form Team India fell prey to a resurgent Australian side in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which outplayed the former in all departments.

Coming into the final, India were the overwhelming favourites, however, with a rich legacy and an aptitude for winning big titles, Australia surgically ended Rohit Sharma and Co's dreams of lifting the World Cup title.

Asked to bat, India managed just 240 runs on a dry surface, where Australian bowlers bowled with extreme discipline, and to their plans, as Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored 54 and 66, respectively.

In reply, Australia did get into slight trouble, but Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne absorbed pressure and lifted their side to glory, helping them clinch a record-extending sixth World championship victory

Ravichandran Ashwin, who played just one World Cup 2023 encounter, praised the Australian side for their performance last evening, calling them "giants of modern-day cricket".

Taking to social media platform 'X', Ashwin also extended his congratulations to Team India members, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, while expressing his heartbreak over India's loss on Sunday evening.

Here's what Ashwin said

Mighty mighty heartbreak last night💔 💔. Everyone in the team had several days to remember during this campaign👌👌 and special mentions to @imVkohli @MdShami11 @ImRo45 and @Jaspritbumrah93  👏👏.

However I can’t help but applaud the giants of modern day cricket “Australia". What they did on the field yesterday was just unbelievable 👏👏. Congrats on their 6th World Cup win 🏆 #ICCCricketWorldCup.

Interestingly, Ashwin has one World Cup title under his belt, having been part of the 2011 side under former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
