Jasprit Bumrah once again demonstrated why he is one of the premier fast bowlers in world cricket with a stunning five-wicket haul in the first Test against England at Headingley on June 22, 2025. Bowling 20.3 overs and conceding 65 runs, Bumrah was instrumental in restricting England’s batting lineup and giving India a crucial edge in the match.

Bumrah Opens Up On His No Nonsense Approach

Despite the pressure of playing in challenging English conditions and the intense scrutiny that comes with international cricket, Jasprit Bumrah remained focused on his own preparation and performance.

Recently, Jasprit Bumrah has also been termed as a modern-day great amongst bowlers and social media has been particularly bustling with Bumrah's stature and the 'aura' that he carries on the field. Reflecting on his approach Bumrah gave a straightforward answer.

“I can’t control aura and all. Doesn’t concern me. I look at myself, my own preparation. And I look to tick all the boxes,” Bumrah said during mid-match presentation.

Bumrah Breaks The Backbone Of England

This mindset was evident in his disciplined line and length, relentless pace, and ability to extract movement off the pitch. The right-arm pacer struck in his very first over, removing Zak Crawley for 4, which set the tone for a disciplined and fiery bowling display from India.

Bumrah returned to break England’s backbone at key moments. He dismissed the dangerous Ben Duckett, who had scored a fluent 62, and later removed Joe Root. These two wickets, taken before the halfway mark, derailed England’s top-order stability just as they were building momentum.

He came back with the old ball in the final session and wiped out the tail. Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue were cleaned up in quick succession by classic Bumrah deliveries, fast, accurate, and skidding through. His final figures of 5/83 ensured England never gained a first-innings lead despite strong knocks from Ollie Pope and Harry Brook.
