Ravi Shastri shared a heartfelt tribute for Virat Kohli after the latter confirmed his retirement from Test cricket. A former Indian cricket coach, Shastri described Kohli as a “modern-day giant” as well as a “fantastic ambassador for Test matches”.
It is worth noting that Shastri-Kohli combo enjoyed immense success together as the coach and captain of the Indian cricket team between the years 2017 and 2021. With the two at the helm, Team India won its first-ever Test series on Australian soil, doing so during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour.

“Can’t believe you are done. You are a modern-day GIANT and were a fantastic ambassador for Test match cricket in every way you played and captained. Thank you for the lasting memories you’ve given to everyone, and to me in particular. It’s something I will cherish for life. Go well, champ. God bless.”
Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Tests on Monday, May 12, i.e., roughly a month prior to India’s five-match tour of England. The announcement also occurred after Kohli’s teammate Rohit Sharma stepped away from the format earlier this month.
A veteran of 123 Tests, Kohli tallied 9,230 runs from 210 innings at an average of 46.85, plundering 30 tons and 31 half-centuries in the process.
As of now, he is expected to resume his role for the RCB franchise once the BCCI lifts the suspension of the IPL 2025 season.
