Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Narine's bond is quite special and it has been evident whenever they have been together for Kolkata Knight Riders. Gautam Gambhir was the captain of KKR in their victorious campaigns of 2012 and 2014 and now after a decade, he has won Kolkata another title as a mentor.

Sunil Narine has played a big part as a player in all those three wins and somehow it has always been Gautam Gambhir who has brought out the best of Sunil Narine, especially as a batter. Now, after the 2024 title win, Gambhir has revealed his first conversation with Sunil Narine during the 2012 IPL.

Gambhir stated that Sunil Narine and he are same kind of characters and they don't express their emotions much in public. He shared that when Narine first came into the team, he was called for the Lunch but added that the Trinidadian was very shy and did not speak a single word during the whole Lunch and eventually his first question to Gambhir was about his girlfriend.

"Me and Narine are similar characters, and so are our emotions. I still remember that when Narine first came into the IPL in 2012, it was in Jaipur, and we were going for practice, and I told him to come join for lunch. He was so shy that he did not say a single word during lunch, and the first question that he eventually asked was, 'Can I bring my girlfriend to the IPL?"

There are rumours that Gautam Gambhir might leave KKR and take over the coaching role of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup while Narine is likely to be retained by KKR ahead of  the mega auction for IPL 2025.
