As expected, the ace Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah was retained as Mumbai Indians' top pick ahead of the mega auction. Arguably MI's best player, Bumrah was retained by the franchise for INR 18 crore as the team has retained its core ahead of the next season.
The Mumbai pacer has been their best player for almost a decade now and the top retention prize is deserving gift which he deserves for his hard work and dedication. He came in as a young, raw talent, but now at almost 31, Bumrah has become the world's best across formats as he continues to deliver, not only in the Indian Premier League, but in the international stage as well.
After getting the top pick in the retention list, Bumrah spoke in length about his journey with the Mumbai Indians and how the franchise backed him since Day 1.
"It feels good. I came here as a 19-year-old teenager. Now I'm going to turn 31 and have a son, so it's been a complete journey. I'm happy that the journey is continuing and no better feeling," said Bumrah in a video posted by Mumbai Indians.
“When I came, all the legends of the game were here, and I used to ask a lot of questions. So now, slowly the role is changing, and a lot of youngsters are coming into our team who are eight-nine years younger than me.
“So, I always feel happy to help, because I got a lot of help when I started. So, always willing to help, and always trying my best to contribute in whatever way I can, and whenever I can,” he added.
Bumrah aims to bring the glory days back for MI
Mumbai Indians had a horrendous last season as under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the team failed to deliver and finished at the last position. Bumrah also had an off-season as compared to his lofty standards as the franchise failed in all three departments.
It was almost 4 seasons ago when Mumbai last won an IPL title, and since then it has been a barren land. Bumrah, the champion bowler will hope that he can contribute towards yet another IPL title for the 5-time champions.
