Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently assessed the role of Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian cricket team ahead of the remaining three Test matches of England’s tour of India. Bumrah showcased an exceptional performance in the second Test to lead India towards a victory as he took a nine wicket haul across both the innings.

Workload management has been one of the most discussed topics among the cricketers in the new age due to which time and again they take rest from the series. However, after representing India in all the 11 games of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Bumrah did not play any game for a month and next participated in the two-match Test series India’s tour of South Africa.

As per Aakash Chopra, Jasprit Bumrah should play all the remaining three Test matches and can take a break during the upcoming season of the Indian Premier league. On his YouTube channel Chopra discussed that Bumrah is one of the most important national talents and he should be well rested, however not from international cricket but from the IPL.

Chopra on Bumrah’s availability for the last 3 Tests vs ENG

"I would say he won't rest at all. To be very honest, he shouldn't be rested as well, although a lot of people don't agree with me on this. They say Bumrah should be rested and be kept in cotton wool as he is a national asset and a treasure," said Aakash Chopra.

He further said, "I agree with all of that but ultimately, a cricketer has to play. You will have to play Test matches because you are absolute gold dust and we don't want to play without you. That's what I believe. You can rest in the IPL if you want. It's absolutely okay. He didn't play any cricket for a month after the World Cup got over. He played two Test matches in South Africa, which got over in two-and-a-half days apiece. After that, he hasn't played any other white-ball cricket here."

Bumrah - who missed majority of cricket last year due to stress fracture in his back - has almost been on road since India's tour of Ireland last year. Meanwhile, after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series, the Indian speedster will be continuously playing the fast-paced format during the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024.
