Indian stalwart Virat Kohli pulled off a spectacular boundary save against Afghanistan in the third T20I of their three-match series in Bengaluru. While his fielding effort raked in much admiration from across the cricketing spectrum, and won him the ‘Best Fielder’ medal in the dressing room; it also prompted legendary Indian all-rounders Irfan Pathan and Ravichandran Ashwin to draw a hilarious parallel with Jasprit Bumrah.

Kohli, stationed at long on boundary during the 17th over of Afghanistan’s run-chase, leaped high and prevented Karim Janat’s clean-hit from going over the ropes. As it turned out, his outstretched effort also resembled to Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action.

Ashwin, Pathan compare Kohli with Bumrah

A day after India defeated Afghanistan in the third T20I, former all-rounder and active commentator Irfan Pathan took to X (formerly Twitter) and compared Virat Kohli’s fielding effort to that of Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action.

In the caption, Pathan tagged the two Indian cricketers and jokingly wrote:“Jasprit Bumrah with higher jump.”

Ashwin also reacted to Pathan’s joke a while later with a post on X.

Regardless, Kohli’s sensational fielding effort ended up restricting Afghanistan to a tie in their run-chase. Later, Team India defeated their guests in a double super-over thriller to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

As of now, Kohli, Bumrah and Ashwin are all slated to represent India in their upcoming home Test series against England. The first of the five Test matches will commence from January 25 onwards at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
