In the latest signing, the MI Emirates franchise have roped in Australia's hard-hitting all-rounder Tim David as a 'wildcard player' for the upcoming season of International League T20 (ILT20) 2024, which gets underway today evening in Sharjah.

This will be David's fourth franchise under the MI framework, having represented the franchises in the Indian Premier League, SA20, and Major League Cricket, where the all-rounder represents Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, and MI New York, respectively.

The 'wildcard player' rule permits clubs to sign up two extra players beyond the allowed 22-limit squad who can play in the league at any time they wish to participate.

David makes his appearance in ILT20 2024 after his Big Bash League (BBL) Hobart Hurricanes failed to qualify for the playoff, which opened up space for the 27-year-old to play ILT20 2024.

The Singapore-born's form in the BBL for Hobart was disappointing, having scored 112 runs and claimed one solitary wicket in 10 matches.

The all-rounder the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, and Noshtush Kenjige, who have all played for MI New York in the MLC 2023 title-winning campaign.

Pooran, who leads MI New York, will also captain MI Emirates after former captain Kieron Pollard was named MI Cape Town's skipper in SA20 after Rashid Khan's unavailability.

MI Emirates kickstart their 2024 campaign on January 20 and will clash against Dubai Capitals.

Emirates in the first ILT20 season in 2023 finished third, having lost to eventual winner Gulf Giants in Qualifier 2.
